Who can join?

Boys and girls who are between the ages of 13 and 15 at the start of the school year, or who are under 13 but in Year 9.

How much does it cost?

Our fees are: $300 per year (first year cadets – includes t-shirt and cap), returning cadets $250 per year.

Are the Officers ‘regular force’?

No – all ATC Officers are commissioned under the New Zealand Cadet Forces (NZCF). All NZCF Staff are volunteers. The New Zealand Defence Force provide regular force personnel as support, adminstrative and directive staff at a national and area level. In most cases, 40 Squadron Officers & Staff are ex-cadets from this unit or others that have continued to commit their time to ATC after serving their time as cadets.

How long can you serve?

The majority of cadets serve for up to three years. After that, if you have completed a Junior Leaders Courses, you can be promoted to Corporal and become an NCO with the opportunity to serve until your 20th birthday. Following this, you have the option of staying on as a Civilian Instructor or applying to become a volunteer NZCF Officer.
